You must be a certified freediver.
Spearos on the charter must hold a Level 1 freediving certification (or equivalent). This is non-negotiable. On the boat Diego is your guide, not a freediving instructor. A Level 1 cert means you have been assessed on breath-hold, buddying, and safe descent to 20 m.

What a private charter looks like.
We meet at the Lamai pier around 7 am. Coffee, gear check, brief on conditions and the stretch of reef we are running that day. Full Rob Allen demo kit on board — pick a gun, rubbers, fins, mask. Try a carbon roller against a railgun if you are deciding what to buy.
Two dive spots, lunch on the boat, wind-back by mid-afternoon. Fish get cleaned and iced at the dock before you head home. Typical total: 8 hours on the water.

Is 35k expensive?

No other operator on Koh Samui offers guided spearfishing. The rate reflects a private boat with a spearfishing guide, a full Rob Allen demo kit worth THB 80,000+ on shore, and local reef knowledge that takes years to build.
Honest
The truth about Koh Samui water.
Samui sits in the upper Gulf of Thailand. The water is shallow (coastal shelf 5-15 m) and visibility is variable: 10-20 m on the best days, 5-10 m during southwest monsoon (June-October). The fishery is real but it is not bluewater — expect grouper, mangrove jack, queenfish, trigger fish, occasional giant trevally at tide change. Mid-sized reef species, not record-book fish.
If you want Similans-clear water and bluewater species (tuna, wahoo, mahi-mahi), the Andaman side is a better match — see our Phuket guide. We do not guide there ourselves.
Self-sufficient spearos also explore Koh Samui on their own. Buy gear from our shop, rent a long-tail (THB 3,000-5,000 half-day), and go. It is completely legal outside Ang Thong Marine Park. The charter is for people who want the guided version with demo kit, not transport.

Why do I need to be Level 1 certified?
On the boat Diego is your spearfishing guide, not a freediving instructor. A Level 1 certification means you have been formally assessed on breath-hold, buddying, and safe descent to 20 m. Without that foundation, spearfishing is unsafe. The rule is non-negotiable.

I'm not certified. Can I still go spearfishing with you?
Not on the charter. But our partner school Freediving Koh Samui (freedivingkohsamui.com) runs Apnea Total Level 1 as a 2-day course with max 3 students per session. Finish that and you are eligible. We can bundle the course and the charter over 3-4 days on Samui. Message Diego on WhatsApp to coordinate.
Can I do the course and the trip back-to-back?
Yes. Diego coordinates a Course + Charter package: 2 days Apnea Total Level 1 with the partner school, then a private charter on day 3 or 4. Pricing is the L1 course rate plus THB 35,000. Message us on WhatsApp for the combined quote.
Why is the charter THB 35,000?
It is a private full-day speedboat with a spearfishing guide, full demo Rob Allen kit, fuel, lunch, captain, and fish cleaning. For comparison, a bare private speedboat on Koh Samui (no guide, no gear) runs 25-40k THB. A private scuba dive boat runs 30-50k. Big-game fishing charters run 40-80k. With 3 spearos on the boat you are at around THB 11,700 each. No one else on Koh Samui offers guided spearfishing.
Can I share the charter with strangers to split the cost?
Not yet. Shared charters are coming — see the 'What's next' section. Today the private charter is the only trip product. Bring 2 spearo friends to split the THB 35,000 three ways if cost is the concern.
Can non-spearfishers come along?
Yes. Up to 4 additional passengers can join — partners, kids (8+), friends who want to snorkel, swim, or just enjoy the boat day. No extra charge — the 35,000 THB is per boat, not per head.
What gear is included?
Full Rob Allen demo kit: spearguns (Snapper, Tuna Rail, GT Carbon in multiple lengths), rubbers, shafts, knives, fins, masks, weight belts, stringers. Try everything before you buy. Wetsuits we recommend you bring your own (fit matters); we have a couple of standard sizes as fallback.
What if the weather is bad on the day?
Diego makes the call on the morning. If the sea is unsafe (wind over 20 kn, lightning, big surge) we reschedule at no cost or refund. We never take clients out in dangerous conditions.
How is the water around Koh Samui, really?
Shallow (5-15 m typical) with variable visibility. Best months: January through May, viz 10-20 m. June-October is southwest monsoon — fishable but viz drops to 5-10 m. Expect grouper, mangrove jack, queenfish, trigger fish, occasional giant trevally at tide change. It's a real fishery but it's not Similans-clear bluewater. Diego will tell you this straight before you book.
Can I spearfish on my own around Koh Samui?
Yes. Samui reefs are legal outside Ang Thong Marine Park to the west. Buy gear from the shop and rent a long-tail for THB 3,000-5,000 a half-day — self-sufficient spearos do this every week. The private charter is for people who want the guided version with demo kit and a local briefing, not for people who just want transport.
When are shared overnight trips available?

Do I pay in THB or USD?
THB is the quoted currency. We accept bank transfer, PromptPay, cash, or card (Stripe-billed on confirmation). 50% deposit on booking, balance on the day.
What's the cancellation policy?
72+ hours notice: full refund minus THB 1,500 admin fee. 24-72 hours: 50% refund. Under 24 hours: non-refundable (the boat and captain are locked). Weather cancellations from our side: full reschedule or refund.
