The Tuna rail

Tuna. Rob Allen's bluewater rail, built for big fish.

In Rob's own words

What Rob Allen says about the Tuna Rail.

The all-rounder benchmark

In Rob's 2025 "What speargun is best for hunting fish" video, the Tuna Rail is positioned as the setup most spearos land on after a season or two. Handles small reef fish at short range AND bigger jacks, cobia, and edge species at mid-range. One gun for 90% of the diving most spearos do.

Double 16 mm — within barrel tolerance

The 2x 16 mm rubber spec puts the Tuna Rail at about 70% of the aluminium barrel's flex limit — plenty of power, no deflection. Going bigger (18 mm or triple band) is where you need carbon or a roller muzzle, not a standard Tuna Rail.

7.5 mm spear — the right shaft weight

The Tuna Rail ships with a 7.5 mm plated spring-steel spear. Rob's 2023 velocity tests show 7.5 mm is the mass sweet spot for this band setup — lighter shafts accelerate too fast for accuracy, heavier shafts sacrifice velocity.

Common questions

Before you buy

Which length for my diving?

Under 75cm for holes and reef work. 90-100cm is the all-rounder for Thai reefs. 110-130cm for dogtooth, wahoo, and open-water GT. 140cm+ is bluewater only — you will not be able to swing it around structure.

Rail gun vs roller — what is the difference?

Railguns are simpler and more reliable. Rollers hit harder and quieter for the same gun length, but the pulley system adds maintenance. New shooters start on rails.

How long do the rubbers last?

Rob Allen amber rubber in Thailand heat lasts 6-12 months of regular use. Rinse with fresh water after every dive, store out of sunlight. Replacement is cheap and we stock all diameters.

Are these the real Rob Allen guns, or replicas?

Every gun ships direct from the Rob Allen factory in Durban to our warehouse on Koh Samui. Invoice on file with the factory for every order. Listed on the Rob Allen global dealer locator as the only authorised Thailand distributor. Grey-market gear does not carry that trail.
