In Rob's own words
What Rob Allen says about the GT Carbon.
Carbon stiffness — 30% less flex
Rob's 2024 barrel deflection test shows the carbon tube flexes 30% less than aluminium under identical band load. At double 16 mm, this means more of the rubber energy goes into spear velocity instead of flexing the barrel.
Watch Rob Allen's video →Lighter than aluminium, better swing weight
Carbon barrel + carbon stock = significantly lighter overall. For long surface swims on a liveaboard or for tracking moving fish, the reduced swing weight matters.
Watch Rob Allen's video →Squared-barb spear as standard
Current GT Carbon production ships with Rob's 2025 squared-barb 7.5 mm spear — 15% more velocity, 30% stronger barb than the older radiused design. Particularly valuable on the bigger bluewater targets this gun is built for.

Common questions
Before you buy
Which length for my diving?
Under 75cm for holes and reef work. 90-100cm is the all-rounder for Thai reefs. 110-130cm for dogtooth, wahoo, and open-water GT. 140cm+ is bluewater only — you will not be able to swing it around structure.
Rail gun vs roller — what is the difference?
Railguns are simpler and more reliable. Rollers hit harder and quieter for the same gun length, but the pulley system adds maintenance. New shooters start on rails.
How long do the rubbers last?
Rob Allen amber rubber in Thailand heat lasts 6-12 months of regular use. Rinse with fresh water after every dive, store out of sunlight. Replacement is cheap and we stock all diameters.
Are these the real Rob Allen guns, or replicas?
Every gun ships direct from the Rob Allen factory in Durban to our warehouse on Koh Samui. Invoice on file with the factory for every order. Listed on the Rob Allen global dealer locator as the only authorised Thailand distributor. Grey-market gear does not carry that trail.
