The engineering case
The two masks, honestly compared.
Rob Allen makes two freedive masks and they are built for different faces. I size every mask order by hand because getting this wrong is the fastest way to ruin a dive.
Snapper EVO — anti-allergic skirt, integrated frame
The Snapper EVO uses an anti-allergic latex skirt fused to an integrated frame — no separate clip-on frame that can rub the cheekbones. Dual tempered lens, push-button buckles designed to adjust one-handed even with gloves on. It is the all-rounder mask for most faces.
Watch Rob Allen's test →Cracker — ultra-low-volume for small faces + deep divers
The Cracker is positioned explicitly for small faces and freedivers going past 25 m — lower internal volume than the Snapper means you use less lung air to equalise the mask on the way down. The tradeoff is real: Rob Allen say it outright, the Cracker is tight for larger faces. Do not order a Cracker for a broad-cheekbone face.
Watch Rob Allen's test →No published volume numbers — fit is the spec
Rob Allen does not publish exact internal volume numbers for either mask, so you cannot spec-compare them on paper. Pick by face shape (broad = Snapper, narrow/deep diver = Cracker), not by number. Message me your face width measurement if you want me to pick.
Watch Rob Allen's test →If you are new to freediving and not sure whether depth will matter, get the Snapper — it is the safer default for most Thai-market faces.

Masks & snorkels — common questions
Why low-volume masks for spearfishing? +
Less air to equalise on the drop, smaller profile so the mask sits closer to your face and does not get pushed by currents. You will see a real difference past 8-10m.
Do I need a purge snorkel? +
Optional. A straight snorkel is simpler and has less drag. Purge helps if you dive in chop and swallow water often. Personal preference.
